So let me get this straight: this "mini rollback" happened to some players, mostly afk'ers, but not all? If so, this seems like (even if a bug) a selective rollback. Of all the times Anet said, in one way or another, that they cannot do selecitve rollbacks, only system-wide rollbacks, in response to victims of scams, lag-related deaths for survivor, etc.
So, it turns out that the devs can't trigger selective account rollbacks, but a random bug can? Perhaps they are working on a way to do selective rollbacks and something went wrong and snuck into a live build? Also, this could be an answer to AFK'ers in other aspects of the game, most notably FA and JQ. Honestly, how cool would it be to be able to report a severe scam, and have an option to rollback both your account and the scammers account to reverse the scam?
Speculation is fun! Remember, this is not a rumor, just an inquisitive mind. Oh, and, sorry to hear about all the poor AFK'ers that had all their (not so) hard work stripped away from them! Live to AFK another day, lol.

Hi,
Just to answer the question about "a selective rollback," I think I can explain: Accounts of those who were AFK were, in some rare instances, not saving properly. It only happened to a very small number of players, and that bug has obviously been corrected. But it wasn't a "roll back" so much as a failure to save a recent period of time, which ranged from a few minutes to, it seems, a few hours.
So let me put this another way: Fred played on Saturday for 10 hours. [ Fred must not have read the "You've been playing for XX hours; please take a break" message. Oh, sorry, I digress! ] In this scenario, in fact Fred didn't actually actively play in that period of time. Perhaps Fred was playing for a bit, and he started at 500 Victory Tokens. Say he played for a while, and he may have gained 100 additional tokens through active play. Then, he left the game on and went to bed. When Fred got up in the morning, he might have expected to see the 500 + 100 + whatever number he could get in the period of time his was AFK. Yet Fred may have discovered he was back at 500 tokens.
What I'm suggesting in this example is that Fred was not "rolled back" to having only, say, 200 tokens--below where he started. He may have not saved beyond the 500, but I don't think he lost anything below what he started with in that session.
If anyone who experienced this bug has a different outline of what occurred, please let me know. The reason I'm posting is to assure players that there wasn't a rollback, but that the situation involved the loss, in a few cases, of some very brief period of forward progress. And once more, the issue has been resolved and all is working properly now.
Oh, and I will ask about extending the event, but actually the programming is already in place to have the event conclude tonight, so I do not believe that an extension will be possible. However, you can be sure that we'll talk about having another Gamer Weekend in the future, so you'll be able to work on those titles again, possibly soon!

Ahh, that makes sense. So, it's essentially like working on a nice, long document, where the program will auto-save at certain intervals. Then, at some point, the program crashes, for whatever reason, and you find that the entire last paragraph you typed was not auto-saved, because it crashed before the point it would auto-save.
While I guess err7's happen at times, in these cases, the person was dropped and their "document" was not properly saved, thus it appears they were rolled back, before they "typed that last paragraph", or "got their 100 extra tokens".
Ah well, wishful thinking on the selective rollback thing. Good job on the quick response and great job on fixing crazy bugs like this!

Good analogy! (And I've been reduced to muttering to my monitor when I've forgotten to save a doc and have lost a page or two of new content! )
I am really pleased with the team -- they did wonders! I called the "on-call" person on a Saturday and within minutes he had someone else in his department on the phone, looking into that matter. That person in turn called a third person and in really quick time, they'd gathered the information (that players so kindly provided us here), checked the code, made an assessment of the situation, and rolled out a new build.
They really are an amazing group of individuals -- it never ceases to amaze me how committed and dedicated (and bloomin' smart!) they are. The more I work in the industry, the more I understand the amazing powers of programmers.

So Gaile..in the future means like in a few weeks? maybe a month? I mean Gamer weekend is always going to come back because if not then the lucky and unlucky titles would be impossible to get/finish and they useally come back like every 4 months.

I'm curious if anyone affected by this did a trade with a guildie or something for an item. It seems to me that if they were not also rolled back, it would have duped the items (one would exist in your inv after being reverted and the one you traded would be with your guildie). That would be a first for GW, afaik anyway.

Trading an item implements a "save," as I recall, so no, duping would not have taken place.

You couldn't post this in one of the other MULTIPLE threads on the topic, and instead had to bring back this 2-month+ old thread?

I have also experienced this. I restarted my computer and logged back on at about 2am(PST) and went afk at around 4am(PST) then came back at about 9am(PST) to find my character logged out and all my progress lost.

I started doing 9 rings wit ha couple friends around 8pm on friday night. we chatted for about an hour and a half, then i went to go rent a movie. I watched my movie and came back to finish goofing off and listening on vent to some guildies doing HA. I went to bed around 5am saturday morning. At this point i was up around 50k tickets won and 3k games lost. I wake up around 12 on saturday to find that i have been returned to the character selection screen and that it was rolled back to BEFORE i even sstarted at 8pm on friday. Seriously thats messed up. Screw this Event!!!!!!!!!!! This random rollback bug or whatever it is is complete garbage and screwed over a lot of players,

I played HA for around 5 hours last night, then did some PvE for about an hour. Before I went to bed, I left a character AFK on the rings. When I woke up, I found that i was rolled back exactly when I logged in Shing Jea, with same amount of money and no tickets.
I know because I switched my armor set on my monk right after entering Shing Jea, then bought tickets and went on the rings. When I woke up, my monk was wearing the other armor, and had no tickets and money was back in storage. Suspicious.

Wow.... its an exploit it seems. There was a guy in ID1 causing it. He was like, LEAVE NOW OR YOU'LL GET A ROLLBACK. 5 seconds later, err7.
He said he opened a support ticket for it and it got closed. Way to go.
It has something to do with the dragon nest thingy
